Tell us about yourself:

Murdock: My name is Sharifa Murdock, I’m co-owner of a fashion trade show called Liberty Lifestyle Fairs.

What is your definition of faith and spirituality?

Murdock: Being more centered, and just believing in something that is far greater than you.

What are some of the trials and tribulations that you faced, that made you want to hold on to your faith?

Murdock: Well things that were both work related as well as personal, you experience things in life and when given a bag of fresh apples one day and a whole batch of spoiled apples the next. I feel that it’s those things that make you clinch onto your faith a little bit more, but must believe that regardless what we are faced with or what it seems like. We must believe that the most powerful thing we have is our faith.

How did you overcome your trials? What made you not give up?

Murdock: Well I went back to my foundation which is the church, and started believing and having a clear understanding of what my mission in life was. I had to build up the courage to believe in myself more and speak over my life a whole lot more.

What other advice could you give other women based on your belief?

Murdock: Just continue to believe in yourself, and as the saying goes “God will never place more on you than you can bear” and I believe strongly in that message because we women are very strong beings and we have endured so much and will continue to endure much more but if we hold on to our beliefs and trust in our strength we can accomplish a lot more than man can. We are purposed to do and be great, we are the mothers of the universe and the strength of humanity, so our power is within and if we just continue to believe in our force we can move many mountains. We also need to have a community of women that empower and help young girls as well by instilling these same principles and ideas to help build a generation of young women that will also have the same strength we embody.

What does the word empowerment mean to you?

Murdock: Empowerment means giving a story or message to others to helping them feel better about themselves.

If you could change all you have been through would you or not?

Murdock: Absolutely not, all this that I have been through has made me who I am. I have learned that you have to go through all the setbacks and setups cause it strengthens you and helps develop a stronger you.

How has your faith helped propelled you within the industry?

Murdock: Without the higher being, I can’t and won’t be who I am! My faith has gotten me this far in life, to be who I am.
