What’s your definition of faith and spirituality?
To me, faith is your belief in a higher power and spirituality is your compass and connective tissue to that higher power. They work hand in hand as both the vehicle and the driver in your journey through life.
What are some examples of trials and tribulations you faced in your life that made you want to clinch onto your faith?
Running a business will test your faith day in and day out. I’ve been an entrepreneur most of my adult life and have experienced so many peaks and valleys. You don’t know faith until you’ve stared at a dwindling bank account and tapped into savings, to keep your head above water until the tides turn. If it wasn’t for my faith, I would’ve given up a long time ago. I also took a big financial hit in 2016, my uncle passed away, and there was a month I was on a plane every week to assist my family, heartache, business was extremely slow which I know was a result of burning the candles at both ends so I wasn’t operating at 100%. I didn’t know what the future of my companies looked like but every time I thought “maybe it’s just time to go back in-house”, something or someone would show up at my front door with a new business opportunity, as if God was letting me know HE had bigger plans for me. Today business is at an all-time high, and I am thankful I didn’t take give up.
How did you handle these trials and what made you not fully give up?
I believe this is what God has called me to do. Not necessarily just owning a bunch of businesses but also serving as a mentor and inspiration to young women to pursue their dreams with vigor and intention. There were plenty of times I wanted to throw in the towel but even when I felt there was no more gas in the tank; I found the strength to pray and then went into action. You just have to believe that what you pour into your life is what you’ll receive in return. It’s the law of the universe. My drive to be successful in all areas of my life is combined with a whole lot of faith, hustle and an “I will not lose” attitude.
What advice would you give other women based on your belief
You have to believe in something greater than yourself, but also define your spirituality for yourself. What faith and spirituality look like to someone else, doesn’t mean it’s for you. Living a faith-based life begins from the inside out, and it will be your anchor as you go through the guaranteed peaks and valleys. However, you have to continuously strengthen your spiritual muscle with as much fervor in your high moments, as you do in your lowest moments. If you are not the type to attend church often, find something that you can practice daily, whether it’s reading a devotional or writing in a prayer journal, so you always maintain a connection to God.
My go-to’s are:
Jesus Calling Daily Devotional
The Prayer Journal by Thimble Press
How has your faith help propel you in this industry?
It has been my armor and my protection and has given me the strength to keep going even when the odds seemed stacked against me. I believe that confidence shows in every room I walk into, in every pitch meeting I am in, every email I write, and every new client I sign on to my agency.
What does it mean to you to be an empowered woman of faith?
It says that I am powerful, protected, blessed and highly favored and that my dreams cannot work unless my faith in God is at the forefront. Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future.” If you live with that belief every day, nothing can stop you
