Last December, Afrikrea.com, the world’s leading marketplace for all things #MadeofAfrica headed to Ghana to celebrate the Year of Return.
As of now, the ever-growing marketplace is home to 5,000 sellers and 80,000 products. Dubbed the “Afro” Etsy, it has made more than $5M in sales and shipped to consumers in over 101 countries worldwide. Afrikrea hosted the exclusive #AfrikreaHolidays, a weeklong interactive pop-up for stylists, influencers, and celebrities to shop and take photographs in a repurposed villa in Accra.
The event that went from December 27th to January 3rd was visited by the likes of Love & Hip Hop’s Yandy Smith, Mona Scott Young, stylist Alexander-Julian Gibbson, actresses Nicole Ari Parker, Nicole Kodjoe, AJ Johnson, Erika Alexander, Vanessa Williams, Lupita Nyong’o, Ghana’s Nana Mensah, Joselyn Dumas, Stonebwoy, activists Opal Tometi, Deray Davis, TV personality Bevy Smith, influencers Jackie Aina, Peak Mill, and Bozoma Saint John’s family, to name a few.
From 5 outdoor photo sets to branded wax-print tote bags to 700 goods from over 200 premier designers, it was a creative way for the marketplace to showcase the wide variety of fashions available on its platform and educate guests on the stories of some of its sellers. The colorful, attention-grabbing activation sparked plenty of Instagram posts.
